A world is a pressure system. Who enforces the rules, and what do they cost?
Who benefits. Who gets crushed. What ordinary life feels like under those conditions. What is changing right now that makes the story happen now instead of some other year.
THE MECHANISM
Eight layers. Thin in any one of them and the world is thin.
→ The world spine: reality frame, rule system, power source, cost, consequence, enforcement, hidden layer, daily life, and world pressure.
→ The reality ceiling: fixes base reality, disbelief ceiling, and exception path before anything escalates.
→ Power system logic: follows source, access, limit, cost, training, enforcement, failure, and what power changes about ordinary life.
→ Three layers of power: separates public authority, practical authority, and hidden authority. When all three are the same body, it tells you the world is flat.
→ The daily life test: asks for a baker, a clerk, or a street thief inside the world. If they cannot exist clearly, the setting has not left the throne room.
→ Layered truth: keeps myth, hidden truth, and foundational truth separate, so a reveal changes what a character can do rather than only what they know.
Can’t I just do this with ChatGPT?
Yes. That is the problem.
Ask ChatGPT to build you a dungeon and it will build you a dungeon. It will be plausible, it will be fast, and it will have no chokepoints, no reason to exist, and no history that explains why the room is where it is. You will not notice, because you asked for a dungeon and you got one.
A lens makes the same model do the work it skips: name the ground the place was built on, state what changes when the alarm goes off, mark the one connection that decides the fight, and tell you which of those it is guessing at.
The model was always capable of that. Nobody was asking it to.
